The Fortress was born out of a cultivated creative space for young black artists to release their bearings on burdens, trauma, and generational cycles that promote harder, not smarter, work. Basically, some college kids meeting adulthood, sexual maturity, race, hip-hop, and other cultural influences then talking about it in my room over music and fresh air and liberated (or “hipster”) bedroom aesthetics. Then came, podcast. Then came, service. Then came, workshops. Then came, doula. So you have, a small business that holds values upon matriarchal justice. I, Sharita A. Sims, am a daughter, of a daughter, of a daughter, of a daughter born and raised in New Orleans. I feel things. I represent and serve and for-see. I am here for the prioritized progression and protection of my kin folk.
The Fortress aims to get us free. However that may be.
